An Apology to Gerber

Ahh Gerber, you win.

I thought I could make all of Jackson's baby food, but this week I sort-of started slacking off.  Oh I have every excuse in the book.  It got too hard to strain all those pea shells.  I'm too tired when I get home from work.  I don't feel like finding a microwave safe bowl for that frozen baby food cube.

You come packaged so well.  I pop you open and fill up his bowl.  Add a little cereal and milk.  Stick the remaining food in the fridge and I'm done.

Gerber 1st Foods Green Beans, 2-Count, 2.5-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 8)

Your texture is so creamy and smooth, and my baby loves you for it.  How can I deny him this great pleasure?

You have given me the ability to put that steam basket away for a few nights, and simply enjoy my little man.  For this I must thank you.

I know I talked a lot of smack about you Gerber, but you are not all that bad.  In fact, I find you edible.  And so does Jackson.  Especially your green beans and peas.

  3. I had the *best* intentions of wanting to make all my daughter's food... I was determined to make everything organic and fresh ...
Well... I tried and darn it's hard work! I know it's worth it, but as long as you read the ingredients, I am thinking store-bought baby food is just fine ... but that's coming from me, the one that hates to cook! :)
There are very high standards that store-bought baby food has to meet... and you know what - we all grew up without organic home-made baby food and are just fine from it. Just sayin' ....
(trying to make you not feel bad)

  4. I'm glad there are so many others just like me! I really don't feel guilty about it...to your point Skye, Gerber's standards are pretty high and all that is in their food is water and puree.

It's still fun to make it from time to time.

  6. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Lol! You know what I have decided recently...maybe just this week...I am just going to make what I can, and whatever I can't, well...gerber it is!

Why stress out trying to go around town looking for fruits and veggies that aren't in season. So I bought some carrots and I have some apples from my Father-in-laws tree and that is what I will make fresh this week. Everything else will be in a jar!
