Road Trips & Crying Baby

Wow, what a weekend.  We had so much fun on our road trip to St. Louis.  The only part that was a little rough was the last hour of the ride home.  Jack had been sleeping the entire way and then he woke up....

What is the game plan for a crying baby in the car when you are all alone?

1) Sing songs that he likes...some of Jack's favorites include little tunes I've made up with his name in them like "Baby on the Run" and "Oh Look at that Baby in the Window."  I know, I'm weird, but it is more fun than singing him the same old boring songs.

2) Toss back new and fun toys for him.  Jack especially likes toy cars...tossing back binkies isn't a bad idea either.

3) When all of that doesn't work, try the "you cry, I cry approach."  Now, I'm not a huge fan of this approach but it worked for a bit.  Jack would let out a cry and then I would let out a cry.  Sort of like an echo.  For some reason, it seemed to make both of us feel better.

4) When all else fails, take a break.  Pull over and give your little guy a hug.  It won't get you home any time sooner, but you might just both feel a lot better.

Bath Fun! Stack It Up

My baby, like most babies, adores his bath time.  He loves to splish, splash, and splosh in the warm water.  Since he moved over to the big boy tub (a.k.a. big bath tub), I got him these super cute-o-la
caterpillar stacking cups.  That's right, we are cranking bath tub time up a notch.

They are so much fun and my baby loves them!  He always grabs at them as the float in the water...great for that bath time chew.  He needs to always have at least one in his hand.  I have fun with them too.  We stack them, smack them down, flip them over, and toss them around. I dump water on his head with them of course too.

For $6 bucks they are a great buy.  Honestly, if I took baths, I would probably play with them too.

Bye-bye Bottle Washing?

I absolutely hate washing bottles.  If I never wash another bottle again it will be too soon.  I'm ready, I mean, Jackson is ready for a change....

Introducing the sippy cup.  Jackson has started to use them.  Well kind of.  He has been chewing, sucking, and tossing sippy cups.  I guess you can call that "using" them.

I bought these Playtex ones at Target and they are ok.  I feel like he isn't sure how to get the water out, or maybe he doesn't really care about the water.  He is all about the soft chewy plastic.  He craves it. Oral fixation problem perhaps?

Any advice out there on how to get my little guy to actually drink out the sippy cup? Dreams of not washing bottles are hopefully in my future.  Maybe I'll just have my husband wash them from now on and then it will be more like the near future.  I have to give him credit, he actually washes them a lot.  I'm a lucky gal.

Cheers.

Keep Baby Busy with Photos

Let's face it, when you are a mom and have a job, it is a requirement to wear clothes to work.  Lately my little guy just wants to be held which makes it difficult to get dressed in the morning.  If I put him down the tears start to flow.  It is hard enough taking him to daycare each day, I simply can't bare these sad tears!

One thing that seems to help is his new photo album.

Sassy Look Photo Book

My mom got Jackson his own little baby sassy photo album for Christmas.  I put pictures of him in it smiling, laughing, and spending time with family members.  Now whenever he is a little teary-eyed I place this little happy book into his lap.

The bendy plastic is great for chewing on and he loves looking at the pictures of himself.  Who wouldn't though?  He is just too cute!

Casualties from a 5-Month Old's Madness

It's sad, but true. Beware of entering my house as you may be a witness to one of my baby's next acts of shear madness.

You won't see it coming. You won't think anything could possibly happen in this loving home. You may even think to yourself "Oh, what a sweet little baby. Look at his cute smile. He could do no harm..." Then suddenly without warning you will witness the casualties!

The poor bib has seen better days...tossed to the side like an old used up rag!

And my baby doesn't even have a strong arm yet. I can't imagine what it is likely to be in a few months. Is this a forewarning for future hits in the head? Probably should stick to soft toys come Christmas time.
